 Safety First HorsemanshipSM

Adult Horsemanship Class

Del Camino's exclusive hands on class for adults who love horses addresses the specific needs of adults who do not necessarily ride them.  The curriculum teaches general horsemanship and groundwork skills using our Safety First Horsemanship™ method. The course meets the needs of:

    • Couples considering purchasing horse property and keeping horses at home for themselves or their children to ride.
    • Non-riding parents of children who are taking riding lessons and may consider buying a horse that will be boarded at the training stable and need to make informed decisions, and be confident and comfortable around their child’s mount.
    • Riders who must take a break from riding due to pregnancy, illness or injury and want to stay involved and learn more.
    • Adults who wish to do charitable work around horses but lack the necessary skills and confidence with horses.
    • Owners who did not receive structured and complete training in how to handle and care for their horse, stable and tack when they took their riding lessons.

Del Camino provides well-mannered school horses, grooming supplies and tack for working with the horses, as well as high quality detailed class handouts.  Students are able to begin getting close to horses by simply dressing comfortably and safely.

Learning to Braid a Pulled Mane

Classes run November through April on Monday evenings and Saturday afternoons.  Students may enroll for any month, and are not required to enroll for the entire season.  However, the curriculum is designed to build on previous classes, so a person who cannot safely handle, move around, and lead a horse should not expect to participate in the hands-on portion of the classes after the first month when these skills are taught.   Space availability is limited, and advance reservations are required. Come develop your knowledge of horses and confidence caring for them with us!

If you have considered taking Equine Science courses at your local community college, but can’t fit them into a work schedule, this class is for you.  If you want more hands-on practice and direct observation without losing the detail and structure of a school's textbook/lecture course, this class is for you.
